# Crawl Depth

The number of clicks required to reach a page from the homepage. Pages buried deep in a site's hierarchy (high crawl depth) are less likely to be discovered ...

The number of clicks required to reach a page from the homepage. Pages buried deep in a site's hierarchy (high crawl depth) are less likely to be discovered and indexed by both search engine and AI crawlers. Shallow crawl depth (≤3 clicks) is ideal.

**Example:** A product page accessible from the homepage → category page → product page (3 clicks) has acceptable crawl depth. The same page buried at homepage → category → subcategory → filter → product (5 clicks) may not be crawled frequently.
