# Understanding GEO Scores

On this page

## The Nine Dimensions

GEO scores are computed across nine dimensions: (1) Definition Coverage — does your content explicitly define key terms? (2) Retrieval-map Completeness — can LLMs navigate your content structure? (3) Knowledge-chunk Quality — are individual paragraphs self-contained and citable? (4) Entity Density — number of named entities per 1,000 words. (5) FAQ Coverage — do you address common questions? (6) Authoritative Sourcing — citations to credible references. (7) Real-world Examples — concrete case studies. (8) Neutral Tone — objective, trustworthy writing. (9) Optimal Length — comprehensive without bloat.

## Interpreting Your Scores

Each dimension is scored 0–15 points. The total GEO score is normalised to 0–100. Industry benchmarks: 80+ is excellent (top 5% of sites), 60–79 is good (likely cited for some queries), 40–59 is average (occasional citations), below 40 is weak (rarely cited by LLMs). Focus improvement efforts on your lowest-scoring dimensions first.

## Your GEO Archetype

Based on your scoring pattern, Topicker assigns a GEO Archetype — a category that describes your content's relationship with AI search engines. Archetypes include 'Authority Builder', 'Emerging Voice', 'Technical Reference', 'Thought Leader', and others. Each archetype comes with specific recommendations tailored to your content profile.

## Improving Your Scores

The Quick Wins section of your report provides specific, actionable steps to improve each dimension. These are prioritised by impact — implementing the top 3 recommendations typically yields a 15–25 point improvement in overall GEO score within 30 days. Common quick wins include adding definition blocks, increasing entity density, and restructuring headings to mirror natural queries.
