# Competitive Gap Analysis Explained

On this page

## How Competitors Are Identified

Topicker identifies your content competitors — not necessarily your business competitors. Content competitors are sites that rank for similar keywords, cover similar topics, and get cited by LLMs in the same query spaces. This distinction is important: a blog or media site might be a stronger content competitor than a direct business rival.

## Types of Content Gaps

The analysis identifies three gap types: (1) Topic Gaps — subjects competitors cover that you don't, (2) Depth Gaps — topics you both cover but competitors go deeper, and (3) Structure Gaps — topics where your content exists but lacks the structural elements (definitions, entities, FAQs) that make it citable.

## Keyword Delta Scoring

The Keyword Delta Table ranks keyword opportunities by the gap between existing content quality and what's achievable. High delta scores mean there's significant room for a better-structured, more citable piece of content — regardless of traditional keyword difficulty. Focus on high-delta keywords for maximum impact per article.

## Strategic Application

Use gap analysis to prioritise your content calendar. Topics with high delta scores und low competitor coverage represent the biggest opportunities. Create content that's not just longer or more comprehensive — create content that's structurally superior: better definitions, more entities, clearer headings, and standalone paragraphs that LLMs can extract and cite.
